The wisdom
tooth grows at the back of the gums and is the last teeth to come out. Most
people have wisdom teeth on corner of the mouth. Wisdom teeth usually grow in
end side of the gums during the early twenties or late teens. For a healthy
normal person, there are 28 adult teeth’s usually in place, so there isn't
always enough space in the mouth for wisdom teeth’s to grow accurately. Because
of the space shortage, the wisdom teeth can sometimes appear at an angle
or may get stuck or only partially come into view. Wisdom teeth that grow like that
are called impacted. If someone having problem with his or her wisdom teeth
then he or she should make an appointment to see a dentist.
If
someone is experiencing severe pain from wisdom teeth his or her dentist will check it and advice on
whether those are need to be removed. If the dentist thinks someone may needs to remove the wisdom teeth, he or
she will usually go for an X-ray of the mouth. This shows the dentist a clearer view of the position
of the wisdom teeth. As with any teeth problems, it's important to see the
dentist as soon as possible, rather than waiting for the regular periodic dental
check-up.
The dentist may remove the wisdom teeth
or he may refer to a specialist surgeon for better hospital treatment.
Before the surgery, the dentist will give an anesthetic injection to numb
the area around the tooth. Some pressure can be feeling before the tooth is
removed, as the dentist or oral
surgeon needs to expand the tooth socket by moving it back and forth. In some
cases a dentists need to cut the gum and the tooth may need to be broken into
smaller pieces before it is removed. The removal time of the tooth will vary.
Some surgery only takes few minutes, whereas some can take 20 plus
minutes. After your wisdom teeth have been removed, someone may experience
discomfort and swelling, both on the inside and outside of the mouth. This is
usually worse for the first 2 to three days, but it can continue for more than
weeks.
Other possible
complication is dry socket, which is an aching sensation in the jaw or gum, and
sometimes taste coming from the empty tooth socket or a bad smell. Dry
socket happens if someone don't follow the after care instructions given
by dentist. Just like other surgery,
there are some risks associated with the removal of a wisdom tooth like,
delayed healing or infection.
