Web designing is the planning and making of websites. This
includes the information
architecture, site structure, user interface, layout, colors, navigation, fonts, and imagery. All of
these are merged with the principles of design to create a website that matches the goals of the client and website designer.
Web design is the part of the website facing the customer. A website
designer is concerned with how the
customers interact with it and appearance of the site. Good web designer
knows how to merge the design principles
to create a new site that look great. Web designers must begin with considering the client’s
website objectives and then advance to an Information Architecture (IA) to set the
client’s website’s information hierarchy and help out guide the design. Next, a
website designer can start wire framing
and finally can go for the design stage. Web
designers can use multiple basic design principles to achieve a pleasing
layout which may offers exceptional user experience.
It’s essential for website designers to make a balanced
layout. In web designing it’s referred to light (lighter and small colors) and heavy
(dark and large colors) elements. Use of the correct proportion of each is important
to achieve a website design.
In color theory, contrasting
colors are ones which is placed opposite to one another on the color wheel
(complementary colors). There are few other areas that web design offers where
contrast is applicable. Website designers
look at contrasting textures, shapes and sizes to classify and draw attention
to certain areas of the website.
Emphasis is one of the website
design principle which is founded in the deliberate “highlighting” of certain key
elements of the website layout. It’s very important to note that if someone
emphasizes everything on the page he or she might end up emphasizing nothing. Suppose
a page in a book where eighty percent of the content is highlighted in red…what
does really stand out? This is the time to take a good look at Information
Architecture for the direction.
Consistency is important principle
in web designing. Clean and consistent web navigation ensures the best user
experience for the website visitors.
Unity is the link between the various parts of
the website and the composition as a whole. Based on the Gestalt theory, unity
deals with how the human brain organizes information by grouping fundamental elements
into categories.
Both small and medium sized companies look for a new website
or a redesigning of the existing one. Many companies have dedicated website designers who create the
website layout and then handover the design files over to a programmer.
